Winfried 'Winni' Schaefer is new headcoach of Al Ain Sports & Cultural Club. It is the second spell in the United Arab Emirates for 57-year-old former Headcoach of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Cameroon. Schaefer led the Dubai based Al Ahli Club to glory in 2006 as he won the UAE championship for the first time in 26 years. In February 2007 Schaefer and Al Ahli parted company. After an absence of more than 10 months Schafer chose Al Ain to be the perfect club to add more titles to his impressive record in the United Arab Emirates. Good luck, Winni!
Shortly before the half time break in yesterday's Bundesliga clash between VfB and Leverkusen, Roberto Hilbert was injured in a challenge with Bayer striker Stefan Kießling. The German international returned for the rest of the first period after receiving treatment but had to be replaced by debutant Julian Schuster for the second period. Hilbert was suffering from ankle trouble and an examination on Sunday morning showed torn ligaments in the right ankle. The full-back will be unavailable for at least two weeks and out of Armin Veh's side until after the next international break.

Defender Heiko Westermann (24) of Schalke 04 was chosen amongst the best eleven players in the Bundesliga in the last week after his impressive performance against MSV Duisburg. The 2:0 away win in the derby lifted the Blues on the third position of the Bundesliga. Westermann playing as centre back for Schalke joined the club from Arminia Bielefeld in July. Schalke's manager Andreas Mueller praised the performances of the former Under 21 international of Germany by asserting that Westermann is "on the best way to international class".
Forward Christian Eigler was instrumental again in Arminia Bielefeld's 4:2 victory against Hansa Rostock. Christian scored two goals himself and assisted another as Bielefeld are the surprise of the season so far by staying on the 2nd position in Germany's Bundesliga just one point behind leader Bayern Munich. The former 2nd Bundesliga goalking Eigler plays a major role in the underdogs cracking start of the new season by producing 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 matches. Germany's most influential football magazine "Kicker" prized his performance once again with the election in the "Eleven Of The Week" as well as calling him the "Player Of The Match". Eigler, a former Under 21 international of Germany, joined Arminia in the beginning of the 2006/2007 season from 2nd Bundesliga outfit Greuther Fürth and is more and more likely to fulfilf the role of a prolific goalscorer in the German top division.
Miroslav Klose celebrated his 70th cap and debut as captain in the starting line-up with two goals as Germany took a step closer to Euro 2008 qualification with a convincing 2-0 win over Wales. Klose needed just five minutes in Cardiff to celebrate his milestone when Germany's attack sliced through the Welsh defence and Kevin Kuranyi slid a pass to his skipper for the 28-year-old to put his side ahead. And when Wales defender Gareth Bale was robbed by midfielder Roberto Hilbert just before the hour mark, his cross was met by Klose's bullet header as the Bayern Munich striker scored his 35th international goal. With midfielders Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings out with injury, as well as Bernd Schneider serving a one-match suspension, the role of chief playmaker went to Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Bayern Munich product earned his man-of-the-match award and out-shone his captain with a superb performance to boss the middle ground as Germany underlined their status as run-away Group D leaders.
Germany blew the opening party at London's new Wembley Stadium with a 2-1 (2-1) friendly win on Wednesday. England were not outplayed as Germany ensured they were the last full international team to win at the old Wembley and the first to win at the rebuilt stadium. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard put England ahead in the ninth minute but a bad mistake by England goalkeeper Paul Robinson gifted Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi an equaliser in the 26th minute. Schalke left-back Christian Pander, making his Germany debut, scored the winner in the 40th minute, blasting past Robinson from distance after a skilful build-up. Roberto Hilbert earned his third cap as a substitute after 54 minutes.
German coach Joachim Löw has called-upon our client Robert Hilbert once more to bolster-up the Mannschaft for the upcoming game against England in Wembley (Wednesday, August 22, 8 P.M. local time). The midfielder from VfB Stuttgart, the reigning Bundesliga champions, will meet the rest of the team in Frankfurt on Sunday. Löw was forced to juggle the line-up due to various players cancelling because of injuries, most notably captain Michael Ballack (FC Chelsea), who has just started practicing again following a left ankle injury. Lukas Podolski (FC Bayern München) will also be unable to make the trip to England. The German delegation departs for London on Tuesday morning. Löw's injury woes grew even more severe, when Werder Bremen's Tim Borowski got banged up at the beginning of the season. Just a few days earlier, midfielder Torsten Frings (Werder Bremen) had suffered a knee injury, that will keep him sidelined for a few weeks. Finally, Germany's attack is weakened because of the cancellations of Jan Schlaudraff (Bayern München) and Mario Gomez (VfB Stuttgart), who had been voted "Best Player 2006/2007" by the German media.
Striker Christian Eigler has been voted "Man of the Match" by Germany's leading football magazin "Kicker" in Arminia Bielefeld thrilling 3:0 away win against Felix Magath's VfL Wolfsburg. The 2006 2nd Bundesliga topscorer and former Under 21 international scored one goal and assisted another goal in the season opener. 23-year-old Eigler is in his second season in the German top flight after joining Bielefeld from Greuther Fürth in 2006.
Schalke 04 announce another new signing for the forthcoming season after luring away a defender from Bundesliga rivals Arminia Bielefeld. "The Miners” on Friday agreed terms with Arminia about the transfer of our client Heiko Westermann whose original contract would have kept him at Bielefeld until 2008. The centre-back had already in March agreed upon signing a 4-year contract with Schalke which will keep him there until June 30th, 2011. "We are happy that the move has materialised as planned as Westermann was our main target for the man-marker position”, said Schalke´s sporting director Andreas Müller.
Germany defeated San Marino 6:0 in yesterday' s EURO 2008 qualifier in Nuremburg. Our client Roberto Hilbert was in the starting line up for Germany as the team had a low-key first-half and it was only 1-0 at the break after Kuranyi headed home a Hilbert cross on the stroke of half-time. But just after the interval, the home side doubled their lead when San Marino left Bayern Munich's latest signing defender Marcell Jensen unmarked at the back post to enjoy a simple tap in on 52 minutes. And a minute later Germany went 3-0 up after San Marino defender Davide Simoncini earned himself a red card after a second bookable offence for a rugby tackle on Germany's striker Kuranyi.
