It took more than six weeks of negotiations with Arminia Bielefeld, but now 1. FC Nürnberg have who they wanted: Christian Eigler. The 24-year-old wants to "score as many goals as possible". FCN can use that after just 35 goals last season. It's a return move for Eigler who already played for Nuremberg's youth teams before temporarily quitting football for a few months when he was with the Under-15s. Moves to SV Unterreichenbach, four years in Fürth and two in Bielefeld followed, now he is back. He faces a lot of competition up front with Robert Vittek and Angelos Charisteas, but that doesn't bother Eigler. "The more strikers we have, the better our chances to win promotion. And I'm not worried about sitting on the bench." It might be an advantage for him that he is reunited with Thomas von Heesen. The coach, at Bielefeld back then, signed Eigler from Fürth in 2006. "He was top scorer in the 2. Bundesliga with 18 goals, but no one seemed to notice. So I bought him", von Heesen remembers. Eigler had one year left on his contract with Arminia, but he couldn't resist the move. "After two years in Bielefeld I wanted to return home", the striker - who has signed a four-year contract - reveals. From the Bundesliga to the 2. Bundesliga by choice? "Sometimes you have to take a step back to make two forwards", Eigler says. The next step surely would be to return to the Bundesliga.
